FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about DVD Shrink Software
Does DVDShrink DVD Shrinkallows me to keep the original format of the DVD?
DVD Shrink Full-Disk mode enables you to keep the structure of the original DVD intact.
You can still apply different levels of compression to each title like menus, movie and extras, and deselect audio or subpicture streams.
DVD Shrink's functions is to re-encode the movie in lesser quality and/or discard extra content such as foreign-language soundtracks so as to fit on a single layer (4.7 GB) DVD.
What is the ReAuthor Feature?
In "Reauthor" mode, the interface allows the user to choose specifically which DVD elements (Main Title, audio tracks and subtitles, and Special Features) to retain on the "shrunken" DVD; Menus are not selectable. The compression is Automatic if the Main Title only is selected, to fit it onto the selected size of DVD. If Special Features are also selected, their compression may be manually selected at the minimum possible using the Custom Ratio option, to give disk space to the Main Title.
What does DVDShrink DVD Shrinkdoes?
DVD Shrink is capable of both re-authoring and re-encoding the movie. It features an intuitive user interface which makes it easy to choose what to keep, and what to lose. DVD Shrink allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning.
What is a dual layer DVD?
A dual layer DVD can be up to around 9GB in size (though they usually stick around 7GB). It's better that all files in the VIDEO_TS folder on the original DVD be copied to the HDD, but this isn't fully necessary with DVD Shrink. At the end of the processing we will be have a 4GB+ folder on a Hard Disk Drive so it's safe to say overall you will need at least 10GB for the processing but I recommend using a HDD with a lot of free space for some breathing space.
Is the movies copyright damaged by dvd shrink software?
No, this is not a software to burn DVDs but only to compress them, users in this software are not allowed to burn DVDs and they are liable of any copyright issue that can be arisen.
